Back at the prince de gaulle

I'm back in Paris at the same hotel after almost exactly a year. Last year I was here with my family and got the royalty treatment. This year I'm here for work and definitely not as nice. At least I have platinum status :)

Freezing cold and rainy right now. Joy.

Things change so quickly

Just had lunch with another one of my old bosses, who like everyone else I've caught up with here is in a new role. Just heard a bunch of other folks I've worked with before changed their roles too. What a crazy place. You have to wonder how anuything gets done with so many people moving around so often.

Of course I guess I'm not one to talk. :)

Catching up

It's nice to see old friends and colleagues. I always worry about it being awkward and uncomfortable, but people seem to change less than one would expect.

I think I'm just nosy so I like to know what people are up to. :)

It's amazing that it's almost a year since I left MS. Really doesn't seem that long.

Lexus show room

Brought my car in for a tune up today. Went in for 30 wipers, left with a 1,500 tune up. You can see where that money goes - xbox and wii in the show room. These guys are crazy.

Buy your way to success

On one hand I feel bad for the employees of MSN/Live who basically got a slap in the face today from their leadership - it's pretty clear that the execs are tired of losing. On the other hand, I'm pretty surprised to see MS get over the NIH syndrome that plagues all innovation driven companies - kudos to calling the emperor naked.

$44B = $20B MS has in cash/ST investments + 1.5 quarters of cash flow ($15B)

MS is just a cash printing machine... they should just buy Oracle next....
